S3 Update

I appreciate the answers to my previous question about the S3. I shot a roll of film with the camera. Although, it is a very nice camera, I don't see it being a practical tool for my work. I would use it from time to time and probably not for any serious shooting (yet one never knows). I am now working with a Pentax 67 that has seen better days. No backup body (besides a 4x5) means working assignments under that cloud of stress. My aim in the near future is to work in the editorial field, while continuing to make art. For me to work in the way that I do, I will need to make a bit of an investment in gear. Well, this is the opportunity for me to step into a new system with minimal investment (or credit card debt). I am currently researching the possibility of 'trading up' to the Mamiya 7II. In the meantime, here are a few frames from the first roll through this classic beauty. Keep the input a-coming.

Editorial, huh? Any opportunities on the horizon?

And you are a pansy ass.

I'm working on making some connections. I've to get a website working first and whatever comes next....

Thanks for the encouraging words Romer.

I think that the Pentax 67 that you've been using compliments your shooting style, as the quality and depth in the images are more striking than what I see in these..... but only "you" know what will be the best decision for you in the end.... just have fun getting there.... however you get there.

hi shawn,

just because i'm curious -- why did it not feel like a practical tool for you? i agree with becky above that i think your 6x7 work blows these away. i'm interested in trying the Mamiya 7II too... i have a Mamiya 645 AF, but have never worked with a rangefinder...

The Nikon is a fun camera to shoot. I think I would use it from time to time. Kind of like a toy I would take out on the weekend or something. The biggest problem with it, for me, it the TINY range finder. Focusing is tough. I know the Mamiya 7 isn't the easiest thing to focus, but the view is quite a bit larger, and clearer. This allows for a quicker response in questionable shooting situations. Most importantly though, is the final result. The larger negative/slide is so much more beautiful. Oh , and my Pentax 67 is having issues. It's time to replace it and 35mm just wouldn't do it.

i'd be very interested to hear your opinion of the mamiya7II. Are you considering buying new or used?
I thinking of getting one when i save enough money or get a rich girlfriend who's generous to a fault...

Patrick-

I found a guy who is interested in the trade idea. If it works out, I would be getting a 7II with 80mm 'Demo' camera. All caps, boxes, strap, 'like new in box'. I like your idea of finding a wealthy, generous girlfriend, but your backup plan of saving money is an equally good idea.

I'll let you know what I think of it just as soon as I have something to report.
